What restaurant bookkeeping costs per month (2026): two specialist firms' published prices, and the price per transaction
What restaurant bookkeeping costs per month in 2026: two specialist firms, from $99 by transactions or $300 by expenses, read on their own pages.
Contents
In October 2026, we found two bookkeeping firms that specialize in restaurants and publish a price. GoBookkeeping charges by transactions: $99 a month for up to 50, $299 for up to 200, and $499 for unlimited. Rescountant charges by your monthly expenses: from $300 a month, and from $400 with POS (point of sale) reconciliation. We read every price on the firm's own page on 2026-10-19.
A restaurant's books carry card batches every day, supplier invoices every week, and tips and payroll every pay period. Neither firm prices by your revenue: one counts your transactions and the other your monthly expenses. So count the lines on one month of your bank and card statements before you compare.
Restaurant bookkeeping firms that publish a price
| # | Firm and plan | Price per month | What the plan covers | Price per transaction at the top of the band | Close day published? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | GoBookkeeping, Starter [1] | $99 | Reconciliation, up to 50 transactions a month; email support, 48-hour response | $1.98 | No |
| 2 | GoBookkeeping, Standard [1] | $299 | Up to 200 transactions a month; priority support, 24-hour response; 1099 prep | $1.50 | No |
| 3 | GoBookkeeping, Premium [1] | $499 | Unlimited transactions; a dedicated bookkeeper; payroll processing; weekly check-ins | Not applicable | No |
| 4 | Rescountant, Essentials [2] | From $300, set by your monthly expenses | A dedicated bookkeeper, accrual books, reconciliations, a month-end close review, a monthly call | Not published | No |
| 5 | Rescountant, Growth [2] | From $400 | Adds AP/AR review, POS reconciliation, class or department tracking | Not published | No |
GoBookkeeping says it specializes in restaurants with up to $5 million in annual revenue, and it serves U.S. restaurants [1]. Rescountant's page names the USA and Canada [2]. Both firms show a bare $ without saying which dollar; we read them from a Canadian address. "Price per transaction" is our arithmetic: the plan's price divided by the top of its band, so it's the least you'd pay per transaction on that plan.
Restaurant software is not a bookkeeper
MarginEdge and Restaurant365 are software, not a bookkeeping service: someone still has to do the books in them.
- MarginEdge charges $350 per location per month, or $500 with its Freepour add-on, with no contract [3]. It processes invoices and connects to your accounting software. If your POS is Toast, you also pay a Toast API fee that MarginEdge passes on, with no published amount, and Toast's own $50 per location per month for the Toast subscription that API connections need [3].
- Restaurant365 doesn't publish a price; its page asks you to get a custom quote [4]. It calls its bookkeeping product software, and it lists outside bookkeeping firms as partners to do the books in it [5].
General online bookkeeping services
General online services, such as Pilot, Bench and Bookkeeper360, don't specialize in restaurants. Their starting prices run from US$99 to $750 a month and up, priced on online bookkeeping services. None of them publishes how many transactions its starting price covers, so ask before you compare it with GoBookkeeping's bands.
Questions to ask a restaurant bookkeeper
- How many transactions a month does my price cover, and what happens when I go over?
- Do you reconcile my POS deposits to the bank, day by day?
- How do you handle tips, and do you run payroll or work with my payroll provider?
- Do you track food and drink costs against sales each month?
- What day of the month will my books be closed?
- If I'm in Canada: do you file my GST/HST, and PST where it applies? In the US: my state's sales tax?
- Are my books in my own QuickBooks or Xero file, and what do I get if I leave?
How we collected this
On 2026-10-19 we read the pricing page of each firm and product named here and recorded its price, what the price covers, and any limits, with the URL and the date. Where a page says nothing, we say "not published". We list only firms that publish a price, so firms that quote after a call aren't here. No firm paid to be listed, and nobody was contacted. Prices change, so check the date.
What to do next
If your restaurant's books are months behind, a catch-up comes first. We're setting up catch-up bookkeeping into your own QuickBooks or Xero file, at a fixed price per month behind, and we plan to publish our close day and error rate when it opens. Join the list.
